We are pleased to welcome Hugo Reyes Centeno, an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Kentucky, USA and Anthony Jakob, a historical linguist with a PhD from Leiden University as our new fellows. During the fellowship, Hugo will work on the project Genomic and archaeological approaches toward resolving the Austronesian problem,<\/em> while Anthony devotes his time with us to Tracing Prehistoric Language Shift in the West Uralic Languages<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Human Past Fellow at SCAS, Reyes-Centeno will conduct transdisciplinary research assessing how anatomical, genetic, linguistic, and archaeological lines of evidence inform current debates on the Austronesian expansion, harnessing original archaeological data collected from the Philippine archipelago (https:\/\/www.swedishcollegium.se\/fellows\/current-fellows\/hugo-reyes-centeno<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Human Past Fellow at SCAS, Jakob will apply his methodology to the westernmost Uralic languages (including Finnish, Estonian, Saami), and attempt to uncover evidence for prehistoric contact with undocumented languages during the westward migration of Uralic speakers (https:\/\/www.swedishcollegium.se\/fellows\/current-fellows\/anthony-jakob<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
