Recent surveys and excavations have revealed a complex settlement history, highlighting the adaptive strategies of human populations in response to climatic and environmental fluctuations.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence includes a flexed human burial from a southern rock shelter on the island, radiocarbon dated to approximately 5,000 cal BP, and a recently recovered modified human phalanx that may be contemporaneous.<\/p>\n<p>This presentation explores these findings within their broader bio-cultural context, contributing to discussions on mortuary practices and body modification in prehistoric Island Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ateneo.academia.edu\/TanyaUldin\">Tanya Uldin<\/a> is an associate professor at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines.
